Dolce and Gabbana Abaya Collection Summer 16
Recently social media literally broke after one of the most prestigious designer company announced their new collection dedicated to Abaya's. Soon Magazines like Vogue, Grazia and Cosmopolitan wrote articles about the launch.
The Abaya is an arabic words, and usually refers to a full length dress. The garments are usually worn by women from the Middle Eastern region, but most recently there's been a rise of Muslim women from other parts of the world including the UK wearing these. Along with the Abaya comes the Hijab, or the headscarf. Many Muslim women adorn the Hijab, and it covers the hair.
I saw the collection and personally fell in love with it. Being a British Muslim woman, who adorns the Hijab I felt privileged and honoured that such a big brand had bought out a collection like such. Muslim women are constantly mentioned by the media as oppressed individuals, who do not have any rights and above all women who are forced to wear clothing they don't approve of. Having growing up, I did receive distasteful comments about my choice of clothing, and it was difficult for me to fathom sometimes because we lived in the 21st Century. Surely everyone should be respected for what they choose to wear.
I feel like the world of fashion is always evolving and its so refreshing to see that in a world were there's so much hate there's always fashion to turn back to because ultimately collections like this really unite us all.
Today I picked up a copy of the catalogue that showcases the upcoming designs. My first thoughts, WOW. I like how the brand incorporated their understanding of the Middle East, and started it from the right. You can instantly tell the whole collection had so much thought behind it.
I would like to thank Dolce and Gabbana, and cannot wait to see more designs.
Peace and Love,
Masuda
